Information

Woodend School is situated in Woodend township, in the Waimakariri District approximately 20 kms north of Christchurch. A decile 9 school, it has a MOE imposed Enrolment Scheme and principally serves Woodend township and surrounding areas of Woodend Beach, Pineacres and Tuahiwi. The student population is predominately New Zealand European with 4% New Zealand Maori and an increasing proportion 15% immigrants from England.

The school has a close liason with its neighbouring schools: Tuahiwi, Waikuku, Kaipoi North, West Eyreton, Kaiapoi High School and Rangiora High School and also accesses the Technology training facilities at Kaiapoi Borough School.

The school has a supportive staff, community and Board of Trustees as well as an active PTA group.

A varied and comprehensive EOTC program is offered.   Year 5 to 8 students undertake a camp in alternate years. Swimming programs operate weekly at Dudley Aquatic Centre for our year 2 - 6 students.   Syndicate trips take place to link with areas of study throughout the year.  There is a focus on recycling and caring for our school environment.

Students from 4 - 8 are elected onto a School Council which is heavily involved in the running of the school and fundraising for sports equipment for students to use in the lunchtime breaks.  They are currently involved in establishing a walking bus to operate in our community next term.

The school is part of the Kaiapoi Schools Exchange Tournament and plays competitive tournaments in Cricket, rugby, netball, soccer, basketball and Touch. We also have teams in the Friday Night Basketball competition.

The school operates a specialist Music program for classes from year 2 onwards. Classes receive 1 hour a fortnight of this specialist program and we also have a choral and instrumental group operating. We have  Junior and Senior Kapahaka groups operating and also take part in debating and chess, as well as maths challenges. where possible. Australian competitions in various curriculum areas are also offered to those who would like to participate.
